We were asked to play during the intermission of a Premier league party in one of our local bars. At first I wasn’t really sure why we got the gig. I mean, we play acid jazz funk music and these guys are like watching… soccer. But since they are paying us to play and not to think, I said, why not? Besides we can think of this as breaking the barriers of music with our sound. We’ve always wanted to bring our type of music to the world, and I guess this is just one of those kinds of avenues. So, just to make sure we captured some of the fans with our jazz flavor, I decided to check this so called Champions league and my Avoid getting into Football picks. I wanted to know what kind of emotions watching soccer would conjure. Most of the sounds that accompany the sport seem to revolve around house music, a more techno, and hyper fast feel to it. Sort of like the music that mimics the running and kicking element of the game. Most of the sounds I’ve heard so far keep the game pumping adrenaline even when the crowd is seated down. So after watching my fair share of games and listening to a week’s worth of house music, I was ready to lead my band onto victory. Armed with this knowledge, I was going to wow these people into a chant. Hopefully they get our sound and in the end we all get to enjoy the game and listen to the bombastic beats of the crowds synchronized clapping and stomping!
